The image of "shards" comes from the story Joshua by Joseph Girzone, in which a woman breaks a crystal vase in frustration, and the Jesus character rebuilds the pieces into a beautiful, angelic figure. Christ redeemed the brokenness and made the pieces more beautiful than they were.
