The Herald
A Mystical Poem for the 3rd Sunday of Advent
The Herald
Celebration! Jubilation! Tomorrow's times today! Spectral joy light of a trillion-billion songs Announce the Coming! Whispers thunder as Eager words and breathless calls Shout the Euangelion of sweet balm, a glad day, And better news than ever. Clarion calls The Ancient of Days Has grown into a child To collect the shards And restore the broken. Stallion Star Sterling wanderer Lancing the night. A herald across the expanse Hurled into time by the Earth Bearer. As the King draws near!
Hello friends,
Brendan Manning once said, “You could more easily catch a hurricane in a shrimp net than you can understand the wild, relentless, passionate, uncompromising, pursuing love of God made present in the manger.” Have you ever wondered what the good news contained within the Good News really is? In the original language, the Greek word for Good News, Euangelion, is used to announce an event of significance like the coming of a King.
In our case, the great news is that the King has already come! Fulton Sheen said, “There are two births of Christ, one into a manger; the other in the soul.” But in Advent, we also await a third coming: the kingly rider on a white horse who comes to usher in a new era — one without suffering, injustice, or death, as described in John’s Revelation. He came, is here, and is on the way! What could be more intense than that?
Well, it gets better! This King invites each of us to intimacy with Him. Think of it. Our ability to a have close connection with the same being that carved the Grand Canyon, crafted the Himalayas, and designed the human eye. What I’m talking about is the most important gift of all.
Think about it, and talk about it. Challenge Him because He’s not afraid to engage in honest dialogue.
May the season of Advent thrill you in holy anticipation!

Jack, thank you. The imagery of the “shards” poked me for sure as does the Hope in The Light. Thanks for the pleasure and encouragement here.
