Monday Moodle 14—Practical Prayers for Finding Presence and Peace
“Wait on the LORD be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” (Psalm 27:14)
Good morning, friends,
Today’s Monday Moodle includes several crafted prayers on topics I couldn’t find in the prayers the saints have left us. In composing these, I followed the example of C. S. Lewis, who penned his fantasy books because he’d already read everything like them in the library. The prayers that adorn our church traditions are a powerful way to relate to God; I pray some daily. But there are times when the prayerbooks don’t fit our needs. Then, we have the Holy Spirit to help us in those situations. I encourage you to craft a few personal prayers about things close to your heart and pray them regularly to the Lord. Plain words are okay for Jesus––after all, He was a carpenter. It will make Him smile and gladden your heart.
Blessings and peace to you this week!

A Prayer for Hope
O Lord, grant me the hope I need for today
and an overflow
so I may bring hope to anyone in need.
Dear Jesus, I ask You to help me
Become a hope-bringer in Your service.

Be with Me
O, loving King, be with me from the moment I awake
To the point where my last thought passes into sleep.
Be with me through the night watches,
And my dreams.
Guard my heart so that even in the dreamworlds
I remain faithful.
O Lord, as the dawn grows and darkness fades
Be the constant that supersedes both light and dark,
Providing a lifeline, course,
And a map that thrills with adventure and inspires my hope.
Guide my waking soul to the place where I may abide
And join hearts and purpose with You.
Be with me, O Christ, in the daylight
Piloting me through the curves and roadblocks of waking.
Grant meaning to my toil
and purpose to my quest.
Help me find fuel for joy amid my conflicts,
And after the struggle––find sweet contentment.
An Existentialist’s Prayer
O Lord, help me to reach up
Enable me to look out
Let me understand within––
But not dwell there
Lest I become lost in the quagmire,
And miss what I truly long to see.
