Day 9 – Awaiting Angels
You are my Lord; I have nothing good besides You ~ Psalm 16:2
His journey in the wilderness left the Lord seeking refuge. Without inns, coffee shops, or the comfortable homes of friends, the desert offered Jesus unlikely havens; one might be some shade under a clump of gaunt bushes, another, a sheltered bed in the cleft of a rock with a shapely bolder as a pillow.
Jesus learned to open His eyes and intently seek what the Father provided; it was often a treasure hidden in plain view.
He remembered the words of David, “In You, I have taken refuge.”
In the quiet, we have time to ask, what is truly good? Contemplating the journey of Christ begs us to consider our assumptions. Fasting, even a little, realigns our perspectives and polishes the lenses through which we see the world. The good we find is the way the hand of our Maker touches every fiber of our lives.
Truth shouts in the absence of diversion. Reality is unveiled, and the simple voice of God has room to surround and infuse us with unspeakable splendor. “In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
