Day 19 – Awaiting Angels
Seeing the wind, he became frightened ~ Matthew 14:30
The desert winds propelled the Lord toward change. So, "Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and favor" as He submitted to the Father's plan for Him. Where did He find the courage to face the future? Where do we? The courage rises to the degree that we're willing to accept the promise, "I will never leave you or forsake you." Still, we wonder, can I truly trust God alone? We want to, but often, our spirits are willing while our bodies are weak.
It's easy to fear what we might have to leave behind on our journey. Yes, we will gladly lay down many hurtful things, but among those, we might also let go of some of our unfruitful ways. Still, the mysteries of God stir our curiosity and ignite His gifts for us.
If I trust in good, good will follow, and "I have nothing good besides God." What we become surpasses what we've left behind as the mantles we wear outshine the rags we discard. The things we've avoided call to us like a dinner bell before a luxurious banquet, shouting, "Come to Me, all who are weary . . . and you will find rest for your souls." We look ahead, knowing, "Greater is He who is in [me]."
