Awaiting Angels - Day 40
Seek, and you will find ~ Matthew 7:7
The Serpent’s Bluff
The devil pretends to give the God-man what He already has by bluffing that he can give things he doesn’t own, but Jesus already knows that Christ has all power and authority. This is how the old serpent beguiled Adam and Eve and how he distracts us today. The deceiver hopes we will forget who we are—beloved children of the living God.
When we lift our heads and take the courage to look out, our eyes fall upon the distant sunrise, and with the new day, hope rekindles. But the miracle of vision only occurs when we take the risk to look up; we look, and then we see.
Where does that first bit of courage come from? It is from the subdued embers of faith—embers that have been pounded, pummeled, buried, and trampled in the sorrows of life but are not yet dead. They are hidden from the world, but an unquenchable glow within us keeps them alive and ready.
There is little seeing without looking and little finding without seeking. Without the Sower’s toil, the harvest is sparse. There will be no harvest without risk on the vision of a fruitful yield. When our inner vision is weak, we must look outside ourselves and lean on the inspiration of those who have gone before us.
After forty days, the God-man was reborn, angels came and ministered to His needs, and a new season of action began— His time had come. Desert-hardened, footsore, sunburnt, lean with hunger, Jesus reached into His heart, found the wellspring of living water, and turned toward home as He contemplated the faces, smiles, and voices of the people He loved. As His desert journey ended, Christ looked into the future and beamed with unbreakable affection for us and all: “those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Thanks for joining me on this exciting adventure. I pray we are stronger for it. I know we will be. Also, I pray that you will meet the Lord in new and vibrant ways during Holy Week, Easter, and times to come.
