Awaiting Angels - Day 37
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life ~ John 6:63
God’s Chessboard
The desert is God’s chessboard, and the God-man stands as a willing piece awaiting the Master’s will. Satan makes the first move. The devil is the challenger and has chosen to rebel against his Maker. Hell’s voice is crafty, and Christ’s temptation was like ours: “If you were a child of God … He’d feed you. You are hungry; therefore, He doesn’t love you.” After the first attack, we feel the tension.
The devil tempts again: “If you were His child, God would keep you from harm. You suffer because God doesn’t love you.” Jesus’s faith is stretched because of His sufferings, pains, and worries. Again, the devil strikes, “If you were a child of God, He would give you gifts … You are alone in the desert with nothing; therefore, God doesn’t love you.” But with that, Jesus sees the game, the God-man’s faith is annealed, and Jesus laughs in the face of conflict.
Like Jesus, we’ve chosen to honor the Lord with our faithfulness and will remember His voice, even when He is silent.
In His weariness, Jesus remembered that only the Father has the words of life, and those words sustain the soul. The devil only confuses and distracts. Jesus waited because His time had not come. We wait because it’s not our turn.
