Awaiting Angels - Day 36
The greatest of you shall be your servant ~ Matthew 23:11
His Destiny Crystallized
Hidden from the world's eyes, the God-man became aware of His calling. Apart from the well-intended expectations of family, friends, leaders, customers, and cultural pressures, Jesus was free to think clearly, see with the eyes the Father gave Him, and fully embrace His mission. His destiny crystallized, and He was released from mere human ideals. So, in Jesus of Nazareth, human and divine natures came together as Christ.
The Messiah became free to remove the armor of a liberating warlord, put away the robes and tassels of the religious elite, lay down His carpenter’s tools, surgeon’s knife, and rebel’s mask, and take up the rags of the suffering servant, becoming the King who gave Himself as a sacrifice for all people.
Jesus is a counter-revolution, a rebellion against rebellion. His rebellion is the turn of the cheek and the extra mile. It’s an enemy’s love and tables of power turned upside down. It’s the war cry of forgiveness and the golden rule.
The pure genius of forgiveness sings a melody that befuddles fear and lights a beacon before a signpost that reads, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last and servant of all.”
