Awaiting Angels - Day 33
Indeed, here I have seen him who looks after me ~ Genesis 16:13
Alone With the Father
In the desert, Jesus was alone with the Father—no more alone than standing dry in a waterfall or cold beside a roaring campfire. His long hours and miles allowed Him to find joy in waiting and learn that collaboration accelerates discovery. Partnering with God beams with possibilities. Two are a match and a wick, the wave and the shore, the sunrise and the horizon.
We may turn from Him, but He never conceals Himself, except in an occasional game of hide-and-seek, so we might be surprised to find Him and delight in the discovery. God never loses sight of us, but looking at Him could be perilous. Returning His gaze is risky because it contains the potential of finding a kindred spirit and the possibility that we might lock eyes and helplessly fall in love. When we see Jesus see us, we realize it will all be okay. We know every riddle will work out because we are His and together.
Our Maker gives us substance apart from the crowd. He provides us with distinction and makes us fixed points in His universe; we become like stars planted in the firmament of eternity. From the lofty views of heaven, there is much to see, yet to live fully, we must climb down to the earth and soil our hands in service.
