Awaiting Angels - Day 31
After the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:12
The One Who Is Always Near
We hear Your voice in a rain shower and see Your face in a cloud. But in the dry places, the God-man looked elsewhere for revelation. Without refreshment from heavenly downpours, He searches beneath the hardness, sifts the sand, ascends crags, and mounts spires, and after an earnest quest, feels the touch of the One who is always near.
With opened eyes, we learn truth hides from the grand and sings love songs to the smallest of things—our open hearts. And because we find Him there, life takes on meaning far beyond our feeble flesh, thoughts, or desires. We find rest behind the curtain, on the other side of intellect, noting meaning in the cries of a child, the dry sweat of a hard day’s work, broken bones, the pain of sickness or the suffering of someone in our care, and, in the comforting of them all. Such is the paradox.
We seek Christ's treasure because we believe it can be found. We laugh because we’ve passed through valleys of tears. We pray because, in wonderous moments, we have glimpsed a speck of God’s radiance and have swooned before its marvels.
Thanks for joining me on the journey through Lent. There are nine days left. I pray that you will sense His nearness today and always.
